What is the weight limit?
The weight limit is 110 kg for an Icelandic horse to carry.
Do you have horses for all levels of riders?
We offer riding tours for all levels of experience both beginners and more advanced riders. Our tours start in one group and our guides thoughtfully split up the group along the way, sending more experienced riders on advanced paths while beginners enjoy an easier pace. Safety is always our priority and our guides will advise you on which group suits you best. Please note: this activity is not suitable for pregnant women.
Can I bring my own riding gear?
Some used riding gear is allowed. Permitted: riding clothing (washed at 40°) and helmets (must be disinfected). Not permitted: used saddles, bridles, nosebands, riding shoes, or gloves. All new riding gear that has never been used around horses outside of Iceland is always welcome.
What is the age limit?
Reykjadalur Valley: Horse Riding Tour 10 years.
1 Hour Winter Riding 6 years.
Longer tours 16 years.
Reykjavík Stable: Red lava riding & 1 Hour Red Lava 10 years.
3.5 Hour Red Lava 16 years.
Where do I park and what is the meeting time?
Both locations (Reykjadalur and Reykjavík) have free parking. Please arrive 15 minutes before departure. For a 9:30 departure, the meeting time is 9:15. For a 13:30 departure, the meeting time is 13:15. If you are running late, call us at +354 5467800.
When does pickup start?
Pickup begins 30 minutes before the tour departure. For a 9:30 tour, pickup is at 9:00. For a 13:30 tour, pickup is at 13:00. Please allow 15–20 minutes for all pickups to complete. Pickup is only available in Reykjavík City.
How should I dress?
We advise dressing according to the weather and bringing your phone for photos. Sólhestar provides outdoor clothing if it is raining or snowing please note we do not offer rainwear or winter suits for children. You can leave a backpack or other items in our coffee area during the tour.
What is the cancellation policy?
When booking directly with us, we offer free cancellation until 24 hours before departure. Cancellation requests must be received by email at solhestar@solhestar.is
What happens if I miss my pickup or arrive late?
We send a confirmation 12–24 hours before departure including your pickup time and location. If our driver cannot locate you within 5 minutes, they will depart and you will need to make your own way to the stable. For self-drive bookings, please arrive 15 minutes early. Late self-drive arrivals may rebook for 7,000 ISK per person.

What information do I need to provide when booking?
We require your phone number, email address, full name, and your preferred location. All information is held securely in our booking system.
